Jacob I could say the same about you. You know scripting as well right?
Putting them on some sort of background isn't a bad idea. But there are at least two ways I can think of easily doing it. We will discuss this later though. Lets just get all the parts into the game then we can edit everything and make it look all shiny.

I've been playing around with settlement plans since I got the building to load. Here's some thing that resembles the type of town center we will want to have in our cities

OK, guys, now that we got the buildings in the game and I know how to edit city plans, we need to figure out how the cities were layed out. I have a pretty good idea of how the central squares are going to look. But any resources for how the larger cities looked will be helpful.

We will be making new settlement plans for all city levels and preferably for at least three culture groups; Mezo, Mixtec, and Mayan.
We will also be making some city specific settlement plans such as Tenochtitlan but we also need some generic plans to use. Basically I'm looking for some information on how each culture generally laid their cities out and references to work from.

City specific? Wow, that's be quite an enterprise. There's probably a lot of useful information on those three cultures. I'm a little busy right now but I'll investigate the matter.

Rah, is it possible to randomize the placement of buildings for the start of a battle? Because it's noted that Mesoamerican city planning was "non-linear". The Spanish and Tlaxcala would easily get lost in the maze like cities. Running into abandoned patios and dead ends.

Unfortunately no. You have to set the cities plans ahead of time. But we can make several different plans so that each city is slightly different. I would suggest doing this only for the small and medium sized cities until we get better at editing them.

This isn't necessarily a building but rather an advancement and would fall under farming I suppose, but i was watching Engineering and Empire, and although much of their history seemed to be incorrect to a point, they do a reall good job at showing a cultures engineering feats. There were two I was thinking that we really should add to the game.
1. Those floating islands of gardens they had, forget the name right now. But they were really influential on allowing Tenochtitlan to grow and the whole Mexican Valley to prosper. They said that they could have up to 9 harvests a year with these things. I think we really need to add them if someone can give me what they were called or i can research when I get a chance.
2. Tgey talked about the aquaduxt the Mixica built to get fresh water into Tenochtitlan. I think we should add this as well. Since it seems that not only did Tenochtitlan have sophisticated aquaducts but so to did Texcoco. Don't worry Mel, these aren't things we'll need models for. Just building cards.
