Alright, so I realized that we don't have too many 2-D artists. Then I realized that 2D artists don't have to be modders - they don't even have to play Rome Total War! I go to some social boards, and some of them have some artists. Perhaps we can get some of them to do some 2D artwork? For example, unit cards.
So what should I have people do to see if they are good enough at the artwork? I'm thinking a unit card. I need to know what kind of image they need to create, the dimensions, and some pictures of the unit to work off of.

We have someone who is really good, but he is only one person and currently working on the banners another could only be a benefit. We also need UI and more importantly faction member cards, you know the faces of your faction leaders, spy's, diplomats, generals, and those of all the other factions. That is going to be a huge job.

And we may need someone to do some skins, Vuk has only three hands (after that terrible nuclear accident). So we must find one skinner more.

I would gladly do 2-D art, and skins for the Mayan units especially... if I knew how to 2-D for Total War...
I have photoshop cs2... I probably need some plug-in... and I dunno how to retex either cause I'm terrible at it... tried to for TES4 Oblivion (that RPG) but failed terrible... though Oblivion is waaaay more detailed, you gotta be detailed and realistic for it to come out good so if there's some 2-D teaching then you got yourself a willing artist

I hope you can, kikulza. That's probably our biggest problem now. Alright, so I'll tell them to make a general's portrait perhaps. However, they'll need some other pictures to work off of, or at least some information about hair styles, clothes, accesories, or any other important characteristics of the different people. Can anyone find me this information?

Mel and Fili can probably provide the references. I believe I am a capable skinner, but my focus must remain on the map aside from the occassional test I will do for certain things. Once I complete the map my intent is to focus on battle vegetation and implimenting the strat models and what ever other aesthetic things need to be done in game.
Mel, since most can not see the rest of the forum, can you just post a list of the status of the skinning?

I also need to know the number of pixels needed for the portraits and the file type they need it to be.

I think everything in the game needs to be a targa file, but as for the size and pixels I would say go into the game and open one up for reference. I can't remember off hand where they are all located, but I do know some are in data/world/maps/campaign.

I'm gonna look at some unit-card tutorials now, see if I can understand it all... if I can then I'll try to make all the Mayan unit cards, but don't count on it... however I've got plenty of incentive to get good at 2-D since I can draw, and being able to make computer stuff will help not only here but over at Yucatan Total War...
if you guys have any links to good places, or good tips for starters, etc. please tell me... I want to learn as fast/soon as possible

I'll be following this: www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=66811if it's alright with you guys... not sure if you want an artistic unit card or a mini-pic of the 3D-model if you know what I mean... I can do either one as I love to draw... using the 3D model may be more hassle as I have to acquire a 3DS Max and get the models with skins from you guys.... and is this how you guys do it? www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45563hopefully I'll get good

Everything just takes practice. I can draw really nice heads and such, but it takes me about two hours per drawing and thats just the pencil art. So, again, if I complete the map before these are all done, I can help out, just can't spread myself too thin. Remember, you can use the same head for multiple characters just by making minor changes.

Are pencil drawing fine, or what? What kinds of pictures should they make? I created a topic on a board called "Poll of the Day" on a site called "gamefaqs".
