Alright, in Rome Total War, in order to get higher command, you have traits that make you naturally a good general, ones that you can earn, and other ones you get many different ways. Should we keep this system in Inca? Otherwise, we could simply make one hidden trait that effects command - you can start with some command stars, and you can earn up to the maximum or lose down to 0. So instead of seeing "Good Commander", "Military Genius", etc, you would only see the attribute command. We could also do this with Management and Influence - rather than cluttering up the trait list with tons of different things that effect these, we could just make one hidden trait that goes up from doing good management and good influence things and go down from doing bad ones.
This way, traits will be reserved for skills and other attributes and personality traits. Also, I'm thinking about making generals have aspirations that effect a "happiness" attribute. Some generals will like making the people happy, others will like wiping out enemies in battle, capturing cities, building buildings, exterminate citizens, and many different things.
The happiness attribute would effect other traits that the general would get. For example, a depressed general would have a much higher chance of becoming drunk, being angry, and other negative traits. I could even make them have a higher chance of giving their children a trait called "beaten by his father".
So... What do you think about my ideas? We need to make some decisions about the trait system before we can get any real work done.
