Maya during our timeframe was a civilisation who lost much of its previous power. During these times, Mayans lived in Yucatan, in a couple of city-states , such as Itza, Merida, etc.
I have the following suggestions, based on some historicall research i made.
2 Maya factions would be just fine in this period. A starting faction, named Mayapan, and an emerging faction, the Itza. The two would have roughly similar units, similar culture. Historically speaking, in 1441 Ah Xupan organized a rebellion against the Mayapan wich led to a civil war in wich he broke the Mayapan power, dismembering their kingdom trough the different city-states controlling the Yucatan Peninsula. So, Itza should emerge in 1441 trough a major rebellion. It was an important city, and also, relatively well known to most people.
I expect opinions, more suggestions about this.
Playable faction should be the Mayapan, and Itza should be a sort of rebelling factions. Or we could insert Itza from the start, but making it to be a sort of protectorate of the much stronger Mayapan.

Nice to see you rex, how are you doing? I studied your suggestion. I suppose we could do that. But i believe that most people wont recognize the terms Mayapan and Itza. I propose we use the name Maya just to get notice and then explain in texts in the game (like in the opening screen where there is info about each civ, when you go over the faction icon) what happened to the civ. Furthermore, having two civs instead of one, hmmm. There is the matter of references, of double the amount of units, i dont know. Cant we just have Mayans? Oh Rex check the inca, diaguita and mapuche skins and tell me what you think!!!

I like the Idea Rex. LEts make the Itsa Protectorate of the other Faction.

I am sorry to say emergent factions are not allowed in RTW. I could be wrong, and I will look into it. But don't count on it.

Hmm, the issue is that we must simulate the struggle between the maya city states of Yucatan, and inserting 2 maya factions overthere might help alot. There we would have the same units - almost the same situation like the roman factions from vannila

yes, but in the vanilla game there is the matter of different colour for different civs. Here you said that it will be factions without primary colours. Anyway, i suppose i can make units for both Maya factions with some changes. But the units progress doesnt concern me, i know that i can handle it, and so far i believe i have proved it. Other aspects of the game are behind i suppose...

Yes, colour schemes are not req. for the units. For the banners and icons, yes, but not for the units. I will make each civ so unique with a scheme of its own that you will not be able to confuse them if you try. If you make two maya, I could make them distinguishable also. Either way it will work, Vuk
