I'm bored at work and I see that this site is slowing down a bit, so, I will write.
This past week I've been working nights which gives me about three to four solid hours to myself during the day in which I've been experimenting with city construction. I have no intention of doing all the city modeling, I'll level that to Mel. Takes me a half hour just to make a hill, would take me all summer to make anything close to a city. I just have this awful tendency to need to learn how to do every aspect of what ever it is I'm working on. Its the tinker in me.
Also, I like to know things so that I can guide others necessary.
Anyway, as some of you have seen, I successfully edited the the city topography and building placement within the cities on Monday. Today, Tuesday, I figured out how to make custom building slots and also have to create custom settlement plan sets. What that means is, we can make unique cities within a culture that grows in unique ways. We are not limited to the 6 level slots. I'm sure there's other ways to do this, but I got one to work and that's all we need for now.
I also came up with an idea on how to create Tenochtitlan, which happens to be the plan set I coded in. Once Mel gets back on in the evenings I'll discuss this with him.
Now I just have to finish coding in the buildings into EDB. I've been holding off on this because I think my like will be easier if I have all the models and can code and test each model set as I go. Its no rush on Mel, there's a ton of work I can do.
But as we stand right now, all game aesthetics have been figured out and are in the process of being made. Although it would still be great to get that 2D artist I've been pining for who can just take over that aspect of the mod and allow me to focus more on coding and mapping. Hopefully Perszeusz will come free and give us a hand in this, just let us know when your free.
I'm sure Jacob is still working and testing out his trait system and once that in and tested we will need to begin thinking about game play. My thought of this is, lets get all the elements into the game, make sure they work, then work on how the game will be played. If anyone has another idea, let me know. Or, if someone wants to take on the task of organizing and taking the lead in game play aspects, let us know so we can decide on that.
Well, that's my rant for the moment. I have no idea what I'm going to work on tomorrow. There are some tests i need to do concerning settlement plans and mod folders and then I'll either draw up some city designs from the references I've compiled from everyone or do some UI stuff.
